How To Setup an IRC Client for ToM

Get the mIRC program here: http://www.mirc.com/get.html
Download and install as any other program you wish to use. The hard part comes with setting things up.

Below follows a series of images

In short this is what you will see when you start mIRC the first time.

Image 1
You will have to put down a "Real name" (actualy you can write anything), a e-mail, (also can be totally bullock), Nickname, (this is what others actually will see you as, think of what you put in here, it's the name people will refer to you on the chat.), Alternative nick: anything (mostly used if your nick is already in use)

Image 2
next you need to mark what server to join, to the left there is a tree of different options. The one marked in a red square is known a server. Select that one.

Image 2
You will now get a window with half a ton of different IRC servers, but you only need one(1). If you look around you might find the darkmyst server on the list. If not we need to add that.

Image 3
This is how the add server window looks like, the red square marked areas is what we need to fill with stuff for this to work. Enter a discription of the server, Darkmyst is the servers name so let's use that. Next is the adress, (IRC Server), enter the follwing: irc.darkmyst.org.  (There, done.)

Image 4.
This is how it should look like. Make sure that once you hit OK, look over the list of servers again (Image 2) and select the darkmyst server by clicking on it, then hit the Select button as well on the lower left of the window (Image 2)

Now it's all set up to find the server, but that's not all!We still need you to find the channel. After finishing with the server options you go back to the first window (image 1, it's the top option of the tree, just above server). There you hit connect and the program will seek out the darkmyst server and send you right in.

Now there will be a lot of info, you can ignore most of it. But suddenly there will appear a list(!), look below for how to find the correct channel.

Image 1
Well, it seems we have to add it. Alright. Hit the Add Button and a new window will appear.

Image 2
This is the add channel window, in here we will put the final settings before you will be set. After this you won't need to repeat these steps again as well, it will all be almost automatical. Smiley

Image 3
Alright, in the row called Channel, write #ToM, don't forget the # it's important. There is no password on the channel so skip that. Discription is optional, you cna leve it blank or fill with some informative words. Smiley Last, check the, Join on Connect option. It will be your key to not having to do things manually everytime you want to see who might be on the IRC. Alright, we'r done. Hit the OK button.

Image 4.
Alright, now the #ToM channel will appear far down on the list, on the letter T. Scroll down until you find it, mark it and hit the Join button. And you'r in!

Note
Next time you enter with mIRC, you will only have to hit the Connect button on the image 1 at the very top of this tutorial. The program will by itself send you all the way into the #ToM channel now when you have set things up like this!

See you online!

Hoe To Use Miranda-IM (Instant Messenger)

http://www.miranda-im.org/download/

This client is able to handle more than IRC, it can also get up your ICQ, MSN, AIM and so on. But I'm not gona explain that, let's just focus on the IRC.

This is the window that will great you when you start Miranda. Well, except for the #ToM channel, but that's what we will help you figure out how to add.

First of you have to find the menu. It's the Miranda symbol in the upper left corner of the program window.

Once you found that you select "Option", this will bring you into the options menu.

For now, close most of the trees except Network. To your right there will now be a select server option marked with a red square. And four user options, marked in four red squares. Each of these must have something in them. Atleast a - as you can see on my example.

First of all select the server option, it's a roll down menu, press D and it will send you to the letter d on the list, and there find darkmyst.org. Select it and you will have everything set for you already.

Once you made sure all these marked spots are filled, you can pres ok.

Now all you need is to figure out how to connect. Chose the Miranda menu again from the upper left corner, there should now be a IRC option at the top. Hold the mouse over it and another menu will appear. On this press quick connect. Then repeat the procedur, but select "join a channel".

In here you simply write: #ToM and you will be sent in to the channel.

Happy surfing

How To Use Chatzilla

Chatzilla requires the Firefox browser, both of which are free.  If you don't have Firefox, I highly recommend it.

Once you have Firefox, click on this link, then hit the green "Add to firefox" button.

A verification will pop up.  Hit the button to install.

Now restart Firefox.

Since Chatzilla is integrated with your browser, just type in the channel address into the address bar.  It's just like typing an http address, except that you preface it with irc.  For example, out channel is #ToM, and we're on the darkmyst.org network.  The address would be irc://irc.darkmyst.org/#ToM

You'll want to change your nickname.  Type /nick nickname

Keep your nickname safe.  Register it with your email address and a password.  Type/ns register password email@email.com

If you want to join another channel, type /join #ChannelName
